Bio

Vico was a Neapolitan humanist and failed (for the most part) philosopher who operated in present-day Italy at the beginning of the 18th century. His most prominent work - Scienza Nueva published in 1725 - was a critical failure upon its arrival but would influence subsequent generations of philosophers and writers. His most lasting contribution to philosophy is verum factum, the assertion that -- contrary to Descartes' musings -- truth is not verified through observation, but rather through creation. His other famous contribution -- the three-part recursive cycle of civilization -- is a rather silly proposition. Currently, Vico is the only blog author here with his own Wikipedia entry.
