Joel Hale Adds Yet Another Commitment for 2011

It’s always fun to get everything you want. So far, it’s been that way for Ohio State recruiting in 2011.  The Buckeyes have connected on just about all of their offensive line and defensive line recruits, and added Evan Spencer to the class over the weekend.  Tonight, the Buckeyes got a commitment from Joel Hale, a defensive lineman from Greenwood, Indiana.

Joel Hale was an out-of-state recruit of interest for a while, getting an official offer in early April.  Indiana does not have a strong reputation for high school football, but some recruits from the Hoosier State can and do get national recognition.  In this case, that’s clearly Joel Hale.  He acquired offers from Penn State and Florida, ultimately turning down these offers to stay closer to home.  The trek from Greenwood, Indiana (just south of Indianapolis) to Columbus, Ohio is a simple trip east on the 70.

Hale’s commitment adds to an already stellar haul at the position, including the likes of Michael Bennett, Chase Ferris, Tommy Brown (maybe), Kenny Hayes and the Steve Miller Band.  It’s also a tribute to the unique way that Jim Heacock communicates with his players.  Hale was a guest at some practices and was able to watch the firm, assertive, but ultimately teacherly way that Jim Heacock goes about leading drills and instructing players.  Hale’s commitment is as much for Heacock as it is for stated goals of Big Ten and national glory.

Film is after the jump.

Thanks for update on this commit, Vico. This is good news.

395 lb bench on a kid that young is outstanding. I remember watching the John Cooper show and he was bragging about his young offensive lineman that can bench just over 400 lbs, Korey Stringer.

    Vico,

Do you think it’s the Heacock effect or Fickell effect?

I remember hearing a couple years back that Heacock was one of the worst recruiters and often didn’t remember the names of the kids he was recruiting.
