Scoreboard. Scoreboard.
William Buford was one of the stories of yesterday’s shooty hoops game between Ohio State and Penn State. He was mostly responsible for Ohio State having a first half lead in the Bryce Jordan Center, finishing the first period 5/8 from the floor while the rest of the team was 7/20. Further, as the game drew to a conclusion and Buford fouled out, he walked to the bench amidst a cascade of jeers from Penn State fans.
Buford’s response was two-fold. First, he diligently drew attention to the scoreboard, articulating the point that in a relativistic society with no absolute moral imperatives and preconceived notions of value in a modern society, the scoreboard is our only reliable indicator of right and wrong. Second, Buford let the Bryce Jordan Center crowd know that he had a lingering itch… in deez nutz.
I’m a bad person. So, while Thad Matta takes the obvious route and says that Buford acted inappropriately, I’m inclined to cite the sage of our times, Ricky Bobby, in saying that William Buford is a winner. Winners get to do what they want.
Nevertheless, the 75-67 victory at Penn State last night keeps the Buckeyes afloat in the Big Ten championship race. They need Purdue to lose, which almost happened last night against Minnesota after Robbie Hummel left the game to injury. The Buckeyes next host _ichigan on Saturday.
Oh, please. This is not nearly as egregious as breathlessly pointed out by PSU whiners. When I first heard about this, I envisioned that Buford was still on the court, walking to the bench, when he hoisted his petard. I did like his move of pointing to the scoreboard. Sweet.
I loved Buford’s metaphorical “middle finger” to the Penn State fans — in my opinion the dirtiest fanbase in the nation with only LSU coming in as a close second — I can’t think of one single team in the nation that I hate more than Penn State.
LOL. He should not do that. But its not the end of the world as well!
This is great. of course the ncaa will make a rule about gestures like this, like they are talking about doing with taunting, and will probably take away all of buford’s points in the game. Fuck psu and go buford. this is great.
He is probably still used to dealing with obnoxious kids from St. Johns at Savage Hall.
