Live Blogging ’09: USC

Once again, the Buckeyes have before them a golden opportunity to get back in the good graces of the college football landscape.  The present day college football landscape is built on foundations of speed everywhere else outside the state of Ohio and every state that associates with it.  Logically faulty as they may be, the self-congratulating world it supports is buttressed by results favorable to this interpretation of college football.  Tonight, the Buckeyes have the opportunity to tear that all down.

An unease seems to be pulsating everywhere other than the USC hotel room and among the Trojan “faithful” that have made the trip.  Beyond that unease lies a rage that must be harnessed by both players and fans alike for there to be a chance that this night is memorable and goes in the annals of Buckeye lore.  I’ll be doing some live blogging below, but by kickoff, I think I’ll be too caught up in the game to say anything here.

Time’s up.  Let’s do this.

I know this is random, buuuut, because I’m one of those people for whom a compulsive rage builds, I have to say this.

A lot of you know that I’m a native Los Angelino. Grew up there first 18 years. Parents still live there and want to retire to Ohio.

    That said:
    - I remember things. A lot of things.
    - I remember the “Decade of Dominance”.
    - I remember the 1990s. I remember the Trojans, in spite of winning the 1996 Rose Bowl, being the worst program of the decade.
    - I remember them being the only Pac 10 (which became a very meek conference after Washington got slapped for their violations) team to not finish the season in the AP top 10.
    - I remember USC home games that were only 1/3rd capacity.
    - I remember the only reason for an attendance spike at the Coliseum was because Stanford was in town, and they were bringing their renowned (and delightfully insane) band.
    - I remember the USC football fans I know now being UCLA basketball fans in my youth.
    - I remember the explosion of USC fandom in the early 2000s coinciding with that 2 or 3 year stretch where the Lakers were no longer competitive.

    I. must. have. this victory.

    Ed,

At least the Fightin’ Ferentz’s won today. Jeebus, it doesn’t look like Wolverines can cover anybody. Making Clausen look really good, dammit.

I’m back home finally; worked all day…and I’m more jacked up and tense and pacey than I have been for a while. I feel like Eightball the Tiger.

    Please, please, please…

Sucks, but that place was absolutely ROCKIN the entire time. Best game I’ve ever been to, despite the outcome.

Good effort, but disappointing. We went out to dinner, so I missed the 1st half, but reviewed the recording of it after the game. Maybe I’ll cool down a bit tomorrow, but I am running a littl hot right now and am really pissed off at Tressel for his fucked-up play calling. IMO, of course. He backs off an aggressive play call on 4th & 1 at start of 2nd quarter, yet tosses the ball around at end of half, allows enough time for SC to kick tying FG. WTF?! He then excuses his decision that ‘he needed points and didn’t want to sit on the ball to run out the half’; paraphrased, of course, but you get the intent. It’s probably not exactly right to say that JT’s decisions frittered away 7 points, but I’m not far off.

On the plus side, except for the last drive, I thought the OSU defense played really well. Line, linebackers and secondary played well; I hope we can build on their performance to run the table. Very solid effort on their part.

I’m happy and grateful for the effort of the players; not so much for the coaching.

Yep, defense did everything they were asked to do. Pryor and the fucking offense just blew it in the red zone. Tressel was just ate up with the play calling and decisions. I hope the pressure mounts to take that goddamn call sheet out of his hands.
We truly need a fresh influx of assistant coaches with proven abilities. Obviously Pryor’s development is slow to say the least. Bad QB reads, throws, and adjustments all night. Who the fuck has Nick Siciliano coached? Sometimes I think JT just keeps coaches on staff that he knows well, likes, and trusts because that’s his comfort zone. It takes all kinds…JT needs to learn to manage people with excellent abilities, not loyalties.
This Tresselball bullshit has run it’s course. He just gets worse and worse as the game wears on.
    Christ, this is ridiculous.

Well, its 9 am and I am drinking my morning mojo wondering once AGAIN what freaking happend last night. Before Pryor even went out for the 1st series you could tell he was tense and jumpy ( a teammate tapped on the helmet as to say good luck , and Pryor about pulled a Bruce Lee move and ripped his heart right out of his chest ) . I thought to myself this isn’t normal. At any rate, Our Defense was lights out. I mean they were in it to win it .

Offensively…………well , it’s the same ole same ole. Why Tressel would sit on a 5 point lead against USC with that play calling?? Theres no excuse for it. I am sorry Tressel , there isn’t.

Tressel needs to cut ties with some assitants on Offense or give the play calling to someone else( or are we just stuck with a control freak?). Tressel’s response and actions give me the impression of a person who knows he is secure in his employment posistion regardless of his short comings , and he knows he isn’t going anywhere ( atleast anytime soon ) and he’ll keep calling the same consevative ass plays and having that Senator esk verbage bull-shit excuses as to why he comes up short in BIG F’N GAMES. Ahhh NEWSFLASH to Jim Tressel…………….your playcalling is why we come up short ( cannot get into the end zone ). And maybe I am stretching it a bit , but I think Pryor was alittle frustrated with your descisions as well. But he is the player, your the coach……..what you say goes , right??

The crowd did not dissappoint. It was great seeing , and hearing that on my surround sound . The Dotting of the ” I ” before the game is gonna be a classic due the point that an ESPN Camera man got a Tuba across the grill . The guy told the camera man to ” LOOK OUT ” ……..and BAMMMM, the outer black frame of the lens went flying out of picture. Vico ……..you gotta get that on here.

…….I know I will still be adding more thoughts as this day goes on.

Think about all the big time recruits that were there last night. We really needed that win. There just is NO excuse for that loss. Huge mistakes by the staff in several areas. We were a better bad last night, we should have been great.

  15. 15 Ed

………Tressel needs to something for me . He needs to ask if he could have his balls back before he leaves the house before heading to work. Because the lack of stones that show in his playcalling in the red zone in these games are getting old.

It’s getting old Jimmy……………its getting real F ‘ing old!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. 16 Sam

    Dear Senator Tressel,

Stop sitting on your ass and make some good calls! That’s how you win the big ones! Don’t you remember?

    Sincerely,

    STILL a Buckeye fan.
