We’re Already Talking About 2011?

Kenny Hayes: Yes He Did
Yup, you know it.

September 1st is an important day in the world of college football recruiting.  If you follow the topic with any interest, you may know that September 1st is the first day that written scholarships are able to go to high school juniors.  Those that receive them are typically crème de la crème of their class.  Last year, luminaries like Jordan Whiting and Storm Klein received their offers on September 1st.  The year previously, players like Michael Brewster and Terrelle Pryor received their scholarship offers.  While we’ll wait and see who reports getting a scholarship offer from Ohio State this day (hint: the Miller kids), there’s already a verbal commitment in the class: Kenny Hayes.

Hayes has started his junior year of high school, so I won’t even try to evaluate where he excels and where he struggles right now.  Suffice to say, though, he was a priority target for the coaching staff and will likely develop into one of the better prospects in the state in 2011.  As recently as a week ago, Bill Kurelic put him as the no. 3 prospect in the state.  The measurements alone suggest Hayes will be a tight end or defensive end for the Buckeyes.  Both positions are already being targeted by the coaching staff.  Ben Koyack, of Oil City, PA, already has an offer from the Buckeyes and Steve Miller — who, somewhere in his travels took the money and run… perhaps in Swingtown… before setting up shop in Canton, Ohio — will be a national target as a defensive end.  It seems he’ll be a defensive end, though.

They have already made their early evaluations and know who they want within the state. I like getting the kids committed early.

Lets just hope that Steve Miller doesnt get on a big ole jet airliner, one that don’t carry him too far away…

Is it sad that I have been waiting for you to mention him for that fact that I knew lyrics would be thrown around?

I’m from Toledo. This kid is good! Funny thing is he has two teammates, a sophomore and freshman, both TE/DE that will probably get offers from us!
