Tyrone Williams Commits to Ohio State

Tyrone Williams
This continues to be an eventful weekend in the world of Ohio State football.  Captains were named, Adams was suspended, Mobley leaves the program and, now, the Buckeyes land a commitment from a 6’7 wide receiver in the form of Tyrone Williams.

Williams abilities aren’t really in question.  He’s 6’7.  I’ve always wanted to have at least one receiver at 6’5 or taller, just to make things interesting for opposing defenses.  More than just a big body, Williams is plenty fast and is still growing into his body.  He also runs track and boasts a 22.6 200 meter dash time.  The question mark about Williams is his academics.  He’s put in the effort of late and is making progress towards being an academic qualifier, but, as far as I know, he’s not there yet.

Still, I have faith in his ability to get there if the staff offered him and is accepting his commitment.  We’ve been unpleasantly surprised of late by Shaq Rowell and Carlos Hyde, but it’s doubtful he would’ve even be offered if the coaching staff felt that he wouldn’t get there and wasn’t even trying.

Video is here, if you’re interested.  Remember kids: I don’t get to control the choice of music.

Sweet. We can convert him to a TE and never thrwo the ball to him.

.. or beef him up another 80 pounds and make him a LT. Or we could actually, you know, use him as a wide receiver.

Looks like a good pick-up. I’ve sort of wondered about it but it seems that Williams is just out with it; he’d like to catch passes from LiC. Hmm, we can actually benefit in our recruiting through the “Pryor Effect”?

I think he has the chance to make an impact at H-back/Tight End. He doesn’t run like a natural WR and I don’t think he has top-end WR speed, but he can be a prototype NFL T-end if he puts on 30 lbs of mass. Also could be a situational WR in the red zone, would love to see a jump ball fade thrown his way. Hopefully he focuses on academics and be an amazing addition to the 2010 class.

    Go watch Randy Moss.

You think this guy runs like randy moss? And, for that matter, is as fast/athletic as Ty Williams? Please pass that which you smoke, my way.

22.6 in the 200 shows his speed. If your 6’7 you don’t have to run by people anyway.

The guy runs a 4.49 forty, that is enough speed to play receiver. There are guys in the NFL that are slower than 4.49 forty playing receiver.
