The Tyler Moeller Rumors Are Gaining Traction

Posted by Vico in Buckeye Football |

Earlier, Ben Koo reported that Moeller was a victim of a sucker punch and what turned out later to be significant head injuries that were left untreated.  In football terms, this means his season was likely over.  Now Ken Gordon is adding some more details, though this is still firmly in the rumor stage.

OSU linebacker Tyler Moeller has suffered a serious head injury and his status for the season is in question, team sources tell the Dispatch.

The injury occurred during a trip to Florida in July, according to the sources. The circumstances aren’t clear, but Moeller’s head hit the floor.

He did not practice with the team during informal workouts last week, but was hospitalized only recently.

Sources say normal recovery time for an injury of this nature is two or three months. Being cleared to play football could take even longer.

Curiously enough, the previously reported “sucker punch” is not mentioned by Gordon.

This would be really unfortunate for Moeller, if it’s true.  I can’t imagine how soul-crushing it would be for a vacation to turn into a career-compromising event.  While we’re not talking about a career-ending injury, only a season-ending injury, it still came right as Moeller had emerged in the Spring as a name to be mentioned in the linebacker picture for the Buckeyes.

That is big news. He had a great season last year and looked incredible in the spring.

found this on Bucknuts’ forum, from yesterday morning. It seems to corroborate what we know so far:

It’s surprising that this was kept under wraps as long as it was. Well, since the cat’s out of the bag people need to stop guessing or starting any rumors.

Folks, this is a serious issue as Tyler was admitted to the hospital to reduce the swelling on his brain after suffering a seizure at Ohio Stadium during a team event as a result of his injury that took place in Florida after being “sucker punched” and his head hit the ground as many have stated. The good news is that they know who the assailant is and have third party witnesses. There will be repurcussions from this incident, but it’s highly doubtful that Tyler will play this season and that is very unfortunate. He will not report with the team today; kind of hard to do that from a hospital bed after surgery yesterday.

Sure, there will be a lot of assumptions and questions but right now Tyler just needs support and prayers from the Buckeye Nation. Don’t start assuming things and starting other rumors about why was he in Florida (he was on a family vacation) and got sucker punched. There are more details available but those REALLY DON’T MATTER right now, but they will come out in time. Don’t expect to hear much right off the bat from Ohio State about the details either.

For now, just send your prayers to Tyler.

I’ve heard more that he was apparently down there on family vacay, supposedly for his grandparent’s golden anniversary. He apparently was discreet about his affiliations, did nothing to provoke the attack (hence: sucker-punch), and this was attested to by 3rd party witnesses.

    Nothing official, but…
