Alex Boone done did it now

You can imagine the look on my face when this update on the departing all-Big Ten left tackle came into my inbox.

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (AP) – Ohio State offensive lineman Alex Boone was arrested after being subdued with a Taser during an alleged drunken tirade.

Authorities said on Monday that the 21-year-old Boone was taken into custody late Sunday for investigation of resisting arrest after Orange County sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance call outside of a home in Aliso Viejo.

When they arrived, the 6-foot-8, 312-pound tackle had been jumping on car hoods, yanking on a tow truck cable and trying to break a window, said sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino.

He was found hiding underneath a patio.  He apparently was also threatening a tow truck driver.  Apparently his obstinance has also further complicated the booking process well beyond the actual incident itself.

And yes, being the Wilt Chamberlain of Beer, he was very drunk.  The report put his BAC at 3 times the legal limit.

For a guy billed to be the next Orlando Pace coming out of HS, he’s possibly played his way out of a first day selection.  That’s ignoring a somewhat ugly performance in the East-West Shrine Game.  Now, he may have behaved his way out of a draft pick altogether.

Oh, and what the hell is he even doing in the Laguna Beach area this time of year (EDIT: apparently he’s living out there now on behalf of a talent management agency in anticipation of the draft.)?  He can’t even outrun those doughy Orange County cops?

What a dumbass. Really. A complete Douche. Fare the well, idiot.

Good riddance! What an idiot! And watch what you say about those Orange County cops, most of them are in pretty shape.

I’ve speculated before – I don’t remember if it was here or at 11W – that Boone may have been a big part of the Buckeyes’ O-line problems these last three years for reasons beyond just his own poor play, in that just given what we know about him he had to have been a disruptive presence at all times: in film sessions, team meetings, during fall camp, etc.

His class-clown, frat boy, attention-grabbing (leapfrogging Hartline?) attitude had to be difficult for both the coaches and his fellow players to deal with when they were trying to get work done. We got a great example of that this past season when he was asked about not being made a captain, and he basically said he didn’t want the job because it would cramp his style too much. That’s not a leader; that’s a saboteur.

Tressel should bar him from pro day.

i had a class with Boone.

He asked the professor if reading the assigned book for a paper was mandatory. The paper was basically a response to the book. Ugh…

Jeeez Boone. That’s some pretty bad timing there dude. NFL scouts sort of notice these things.

    Sangre,

Those are great points. I just loathe this guy…I have been banned from a site for bashing this idiot. I knew who he was when he didn’t blame himself for the “Florida defensive end clinic” in 2006, the following season he blamed his performance in that game on the O-Line calls that day (Doug Datish), and Bollman was right there with him! That is a large reason why I’ve got a problem with “Coach Boles” as well. Virus, virus, virus. We all know a yah-hoo like that tool. Saboteur indeed.

A couple things this morning.. It seems to me that Boone has some sort of dependency problem, but what an, shall we say, untimely moment, to go on a binge. I agree with you, Vico, I think he just drank his way out of the draft. I doubt many teams are going to invest in baby-sitting this goof, especially with his marginal talents.

One of the first lights that went off for me this morning is something that JohnBoy brings up. I’m not a big fan of Bollman, but when you’ve got (IMO) a piss-poor coach like Bollman coupled with an idiot like Boone, jesuschristalmighty, it’s a wonder we did anything on offense the last few years.

This is tragic for the Boone family, and highlights a flaw at tOSU. Maybe JT can double-up as line coach as well.

Being a dickhead to the nurses on staff in the hospital is a bit overkill, imo.

He also released a statement about this being his second come-to-Jesus moment: http://www.cleveland.com/buckeyeblog/index.ssf/2009/02/ohio_state_football_a_statemen.html . The seeking “professional treatment” part reminds me of Mel Gibson. Where seeking “professional treatment” for Mel Gibson was a mask for his raging anti-Semitism, seeking “professional treatment” for Boone may be a mask for him just being a bonehead who doesn’t want to grow up like the rest of us had to.

Alcoholism here may be a symptom, and not a root cause. There’s probably other things that he needs to address.

Picture if you will…this has been ALL over the boards, ESPN, hell it’s even on my Yahoo page on the news wire. The perception of our beloved team is already bad….even though he technically is a non-member….this is just ANOTHER bullet in the gun of tOSU haters everywhere. This is the ultimate turd who sucked as a player, and continues his suckitude as an ex-player. Who in my opinion was probably instrumental in the overall lack of winning attitude / instinct / mental toughness of this last departing class. The left tackle who won’t go away. At least Clarett was a bad-ass on the field for one year. We got SOME mileage out of him.
I’m sure he doesn’t care what I think, he’s probably busy watching film right now. Or drinking beer.

    JohnBoy,

“I’m sure he doesn’t care what I think, he’s probably busy watching film right now. Or drinking beer.”

I’ll go with (B). Or, off to Betty Ford Clinic, or Boone’s Farm.

  11. 11 JohnBoy

I would also bank on B.

Oh my goodness, I remember you telling me that about Boone, Max.

The Bengals will still take him. Lord knows we need O-lineman (he can’t play worse then the ones we have), and he fits right into to our criminal offense.
