The Scarlet Menace

To be honest, I don’t intend on watching the BCS title game tonight for two reasons.  Partly, I already know that Florida will win by anywhere from 20 to 30 points, and I don’t think I could stomach the effusive praise that will follow from it.  Secondly, and more importantly, I think I’m footballed out for a good while.  Absent football to cover, and without the Big Ten Network down here in order to follow the exploits of the men’s and women’s hoops team, I think I’m going to start thumbing through some of my DVD collection of Ohio State games and other miscellany.  Therein, I can put my blinders on and watch Buckeye football games that don’t end in soul-crushing disappointment both for my own identity and my empathy for the players (particularly seniors) involved who have given so much of themselves for the grand narrative.

That, or I’m going to finish Aristotle’s Ethics.  I’ve been meaning to finish that book.

Anywho, I found this university commercial while watching the 1979 nationally televised Ohio State v. UCLA game in the Los Angeles Coliseum.  Much to my chagrin, we have here incontrovertible proof that THE Ohio State University was willfully engaging with known commies for the advancement of… umm… whatever it exactly was that brought Chinese representatives across the pond.

My dad, as chance would have it, was in the College of Engineering at THE Ohio State University during the time given in the commercial for said scholarly spooning between THE Ohio State University and the People’s Republic of China.  Now I have to report him…

My mom, however, was not in the College of Engineering by this time, thus irrefutably proving that she is a great American.  Only one of my parents, therefore, has tangentially associated with communists.

Ahhh….the Big Ten Network….consistently providing less Ohio State and conference athletic exposure to potential out of state recruits. Brainchild – Mr. Jim “It’s cyclical” Delaney.
Thanks for providing me a place to rant this season Vico. It’s been a rough one.

    Vico,
Just as I suspected; you are very few degrees of freedom from being a commie scum sympathizer! Hah, I’m going to tell J. Edgar about you… no, wait a minute, he’s dead.
