Buckeyes and Longhorns get a rubber match

Will not play. Longhorns can breathe easy.
I think we all knew this was our bowl fate, but in light of all the controversy surrounding other at-large selections, I’m still a little amused — even flattered — that the Buckeyes got the selection.  On January 5, 2009… perfectly coinciding with a day when I’ll be on a plane the whole Goddamn day flying back to Alabama from my vacation1… the Buckeyes will return to Arizona to play the Longhorns in the Fiesta Bowl.  It is our first return to Arizona since… sigh…

Anyways, I still have some lingering uncertainties on whether or not the Buckeyes are truly a BCS team in light of the nature of our two losses.  Critics of the selection will no doubt question whether or not this was a seat-stuffing selection, as opposed to a merit-based selection.  Whatever the case, the Buckeyes will be getting an opponent in the Fiesta Bowl who is no doubt feeling slighted for missing out on the Big 12 Title Game and the national title game.  Already, the BCS Selection Show on Fox is speculating on whether or not a thorough domination of the Buckeyes will earn the Longhorns some kind of share of the national title pie, or at least justify their condemnations of the system that made this bowl matchup possible.

Until that point, I can only hope that the Buckeyes use the extended break to get the offensive line ready.  Terrelle Pryor will no doubt be seeing a lot of this gentleman if our offensive line holds constant over the break.

Of course, the Buckeyes will not be playing an SEC team this time around, so I guess our chance of winning this game has increased substantially.

  1. Goddammit, Goddammit Goddamit God. Damn. It. Goddammit.  You have got to be kidding me.  You. have. got. to. be. kidding me.  My damned luck… []

    I guess since they are rated the #10 team in the country and there are only 4 BCS games, OSU shouldn’t be in it from a ranking stand-point. But Buckeye fans tune into the games in large numbers and advertisers want to reach all those viewers. The game should be a challenge for Ohio State. The defensive backs need to have great games to stop Texas and McCoy.

    Texas actually matches up pretty well with the Buckeyes.

    Texas Defense…………..

    * points allowed – ( 34th) ……….18.6 points per game

    * total yards – ( 105th ) …………340 yards allowed per game ………..( I like it )

    * Rushing yards – ( 5th ) ………74 yards per game ……( they are stingy , but they haven’t met Beanie )

    * Passing yards – ( 229th ) ………..266 yards per game ………..( Tressel I think will streatch this team vertically………atleast I hope. )

    We match up well with the Longhorns. We have the recivers to exploit thier pass defense . Pryor should have funon Jan. 5 th.

    Let’s see, Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, and MNC Game…I guess that makes four, but I can’t count any higher than that since i blew off my pinky with an M-80 back in the day.

    We heard all year about B12 QBs. That is why Texas’ defensive numbers are the way they are. They arent nevessarily great against the run or terrible against the pass. Their conference just throws the ball a shit-ton.

    Ya think?! We will have to play our best game and Vico is correct that if our offensive and defensive line plays status quo in the tough games, we will get hammered. I mean hammered. I worry that as many underachieving seniors and several possible leave earlies as we have that we could definitely have one of those “I’m not getting hurt / I’m looking ahead to the NFL ” performances. I honestly am not convinced that we are BCS material right now. A lesser bowl challenge and victory might be a good way to restore the teams confidence. I have said before that our biggest problem is our mental fortitude and violence of action on the field. The upperclassmen on this team (minus a select few) are not confident, bad attitude, contest every freakin snap type players and it will not be cool if that virus continues to spread down to the up and coming stars. We need some bad-asses coming up through the ranks.

    I could be completely off base and the Bucks could totally turn it around and impose their will on Texas. I hope this is the case.

    Is it just me or does the Longhorn logo look like a uterus?
