Let’s go do the hop
Apologies are in order to Danny and the Juniors and their seminal 1958 dance-style+pop classic, for which the chorus actually reads “Let’s go to the hop”. However, I feel the need to do another cheesy bump of the blog in the Big Ten Bloggers Feed to celebrate the dance sensation that is sweepin’ the nation (apologies again to Danny and the Juniors). Thanks to OHD-reader NJBuckeye, who brought this to my attention.
The Beanie Hop just might be the biggest dance craze to hit the Midwest this side of the Super Bowl Shuffle. I don’t mean to cause no trouble, especially considering the epicness of the Super Bowl Shuffle. Yet, consistent with my delusions that border on a psychosis expectations, the Beanie Hop appears to be a hit among Buckeyes across the country. Nate Clements, former cornerback for the Buckeyes, capped off a 3rd quarter blocked-FG TD (shades of teammate Antoine Winfield two weeks ago) with a Beanie Hop in front of Giants fans in the Meadowlands.
Video confirmation of the Beanie Hop can be seen here, with the Hop in question coming at the 1:52 mark in the highlight clip. I looked high and low for a better image, but most cameras appear to have been on the other side of the field for this play (it was a FG, after all). A screen cap of the Flash video is best I can do.
Kudos to NJBuckeye again, since I wouldn’t have watched this game even if I was aware of it. I can only hope Nate Clements comes out and admits the source of inspiration for the hop on his official website.
