Beanie will not play against the Bobcats
I take it no one is concerned about the game against Ohio University and I doubt anyone is falling on their sword over this season because of it. Most importantly, Beanie is still open to play against the Trojans next week in Los Angeles. Tressel says he’s still unsure about it, but there’s still some optimism that he could be ready by that time. If it’s a coach’s decision to sit him out because of his inability to perform during practice (he’s been riding a stationary bike during practices), it leads me to believe that he’s feeling better himself and that he’s making great progress in the eyes of the medical personnel in order to even make it a decision for Tressel. Tressel making explicit the optimism he has in progress has us not self-immolating at the moment. Indeed, he’s been in and out of the protective boot, suggesting he feels he can be ready to go.
It’s not clear immediately about what this means for Ohio University and who will be the tailback. I’m guessing Boom Herron will start, as he was the second tailback on the depth chart (behind Beanie) for the Youngstown State game. This game should also help Brandon Saine get up to speed, as he was limited during fall camp with an injury (hamstring, I believe). If nothing else, it might also be more of an opportunity for Pryor and Mo Wells to exercise running the read option out of the pistol. Mo Wells looked very promising in that formation.
