This Pryor kid… he’s quite good.

From the “Yeah, I could’ve told you that” department of camp news comes an update on The Human Web-Traffic Spike, Terrelle Pryor.  Surprise surprise, but apparently he’s really good.  Like, really good.  Scout has the details.

Pryor currently sits at third on the depth chart, behind The Todd and redshirt freshman Joe Bauserman. As a true freshman, he still has to be counseled on what are the appropriate reads for a given play, acknowledging when exactly the play is busted and when he can either tuck and run or throw it away.  He might also be getting too antsy and trying too hard to make a big play.  However, that hasn’t stopped him from getting some good snaps in practice… and apparently, making the Buckeye defenders look bad.

“The other day we were in five-man pro and he take it 45 yards down the sideline for a touchdown and outruns the guy who had the angle on him,” senior left guard Steve Rehring said. “From where I was standing on the field, it was impressive. It looked like he was going to get hit, but he took it past him and got the angle.”

Rehring went on to say that Pryor is at the stage Troy Smith was in his sophomore year.  He has the confidence, he knows he can make the big plays, but needs a little polish at the moment.  Apparently, Rehring noted that even when Pryor is forcing the issue, he’s still good for 20 yards on a given scramble.

The connection here is implicit, but the Buckeyes have also been working much more out of the shotgun than they were in 2007.  Jim Cordle noted as much by saying he has to perfect his snap.  In order to not piss off the Kremlin officials residing in the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, Cordle was quick to parse his words.  He did not clarify whether or not it was a shotgun snap he was working with (5 yards out) or a pistol snap (4 yards out).

The Buckeye coaches meet in about a week in order to discuss their projections for players.  If Jim Bollman’s words mean anything, Pryor must stand a good shot.

“We’re still in a general deal right now, (but) you can really see his athleticism when he gets a chance to get out there and run around,” he said. “He catches your eye, that’s for sure.”

It seems unfathomable that he’s not in the offense to some capacity in 2008.

Justin Boren, looking spiffy. Don't you agree, michigan fans?
100 percent certain not to play this year, Justin Boren is catching the eyes, and, apparently, ears, of his teammates.  Seen pictured to the right in a Buckeye uniform in order to let the healing (of accepting a Wolverine into the program) commence, he was quick to win over his teammates.  While no one was going to force an issue out of it, Malcolm Jenkins comments on the Boren transfer probably represented more than a few of the teammates.  If Boren was going to join the program, the Buckeye players would welcome him.  However, he should leave the Michigan stuff at Michigan.

Apparently, he left it in the garbage can.

Any concerns about the central Ohio product being an agent planted by the Wolverines were quickly allayed, Rehring said.

Asked if he checked to see if his new teammate was wearing a wire, Rehring said simply, “Oh man, if you hear him talk you don’t need to.”

Oh? Go on…
