DeVoe Torrence finds a team
DeVoe Torrence, brother of current Buckeye footballer Devon Torrence, was formerly the no. 2 commitment in the 2008 Ohio State recruiting class and a very promising tailback prospect from the Canton area, a talent rich part of Ohio which has been good to Ohio State football. However, by January 30, Torrence had his scholarship offer revoked in the fallout of the Massillon student-athlete sex crime probe. Torrence was just recently acquitted of the crime in early July and is now free to resume his life and follow his football dreams again. I wasn’t expecting the Buckeyes to retend their original offer (certainly not with their RB haul in 2009), but I thought places like Cincinnati or Michigan State were very real possibilities for Torrence.
Torrence apparently has settled on staying closer to home and will play for Akron. The Akron Beacon-Journal cites a source close to the situation that says Torrence just recently joined the team in time for the fall camps (which start tomorrow).
Torrence is a legit tailback with 4.55 speed and power running style that gives him the credentials of a Rivals100 prep star. I don’t doubt that Torrence will be an asset to the Zips for the next four years, including a stop in Columbus in 2011 for his senior season. Best wishes to him going forward, especially in Madison this season.
Devoe good luck to ya man…………stay outta trouble.
