Miscellany
Yes yes. This doesn’t count as a post, but it’s my blog and my rules. Besides, I’ve been working overtime continuously for the past two weeks, Gabby is lazy and Max is prepping for a move to another part of the country. That said, it’s a slow part of the year for the Bucks. Summer practice doesn’t formally begin until August as Eric Lichter is still running them ragged. Recruiting is at a lull and no one has been arrested. That said, here’s what we’re chewing on.
Recruiting. As we all know, 2009 recruiting is almost over for Ohio State. I can’t imagine anymore than four spots being open, though I don’t know the exact number. As it is, there are very few people left on the radar for this class, but there has been some developments from this group.
- Jaamal Berry. Wants to visit Ohio State in August with his mom. Tentatively, this visit is scheduled for August 6. It was scheduled for August 3, but a friend of the family wanted to make the trip too, so the flight was rebooked for an August 6th visit. I’m inferring some — but not a lot — of this, but apparently Berry’s enthusiasm for his Spring Game visit carried over into this planned visit. Basically, Berry’s a heavy lean who was the impetus for this upcoming unofficial visit, telling his mom that she’s just has to see Ohio State for herself. Lock status: confirmed.
- Marcus Hall. Ohio State had always been the leader for him, until now. Apparently Ohio State, Illinois, Michigan and Florida State “are all pretty even right now”. This is a mixup from previous indicators saying Ohio State led with Illinois and USC being in the mix. He is also mulling over visits to Miami, FL and LSU. I still think he ends up in Columbus.
- Corey Adams. I personally have placed the “DO WANT” tag on him, since he has all the makings of a terror franchise tackle in a position that I think needs to step up if the Buckeyes are going to get over the hump. He will apparently attend the USC-OSU showdown in Los Angeles on an official visit. I doubt the decision ultimately comes down to the winner of that game, but blowing the doors off the Trojans could only help, I would think. If I had to guess, I still think he ends up staying out west, but mostly because of the ongoing fuel crisis in this country. Corey wants his parents to be within an easy reach to watch him play. Given how much it costs to get around these days, a decision to attend Ohio State might be tantamount to a decision to leave the country. Perfectly understandable. If we can get him on an official visit, though, who knows…
- Vladimir Emilien. Had all the makings of a Buckeye in April, but now has all the makings of a guy on the outside looking in. If my understanding is correct: McDougald took his spot; Longo took his scholarship and Emilien took Watt’s scholarship. However, he’s looking at a class with 6 DBs and two safeties already and feels that might be too much competition for him. He’s still mulling over a future visit, and I would love to have him, but I’m unsure. I at least like how the staff has approached this situation: rather than telling him to hurry up, the staff — particularly Fickell — has told him that he ultimately needs to make a decision that’s best for him, whatever that decision might be.
- Frankie Telfort. He has an offer; he could even become a Buckeye, but part of me doubts it. Apparently his decision hinges on which school has a nice pharmacy program, so his “DO WANT” status rose a lot with that statement. Ohio State and Tennessee in the mix on this regard, though I’m not sure “Department of Oxycontin Studies at the University of Tennessee” counts as a Pharmacy program. Okay, that was out of line, but I couldn’t resist.
The BKAB feature on Terrelle Pryor is forthcoming, I promise. I’ve been working overtime continuously for the past two weeks on a work project and have been unable to churn this thing out. Hard drive failure didn’t help. I’ve read everything on Pryor possible through June 2007 so far in order to classify and truncate accordingly. Again, patience, plz.
Give Us Money. In coordination with The OHD Self-Awareness and Aggrandizement Initiative ™ and The OHD Cash-Money Foundation for Self-Philanthropy ™ comes The Give Us Money Campaign ®. Now you too, with just a few clicks of a keyboard and mouse button, can give us money. Really, think of it as a tip jar for all the poor, unsatisfactory work we’ve been doing for the past few months. We tried to come up with possible reasons for giving us money. We’ve mulled over several possible captions for the Campaign, including “Because Vico’s loanshark doesn’t understand the meaning of ‘I’ll pay you next week, I swear!”, “Because we’re soooo hungry.” and “Because you hate Michigan. You hate Michigan, right?” before settling on “Because giving us money makes you happy”. And it does, I promise. Don’t believe me? Just click the donate button on the right sidebar, try it out and wait for the sense of satisfaction you’ll get.YouTubery. Below. enjoy.

I think we snag Berry and Hall and possibly Adams but I’m not holding my breath. If we somehow hauled them in, those three would solidify a top 3 recruiting class if not #1. Then the so called recruiting gurus won’t have the excuse of OSU not signing enough players to bring down the rankings.
You’ve set the bar high on the BKAB features so I’m expecting great things on the TP version. That alone should constitute some donations for the OHD Self-Awareness and Aggrandizement Initiative â„¢ and The OHD Cash-Money Foundation for Self-Philanthropyâ„¢ for The Give Us Money Campaign®.
Remember Corey: The 2009 Buckeye commits need to “prove their worth on the field”, so if/once Berry commits to Ohio State, his 40 time gets upped to a wind-aided electronic 4.8, his stars reduced to 3 and he becomes a “reach” prospect. Perfect for a conference full of slow, lumbering clubfoots.
Nice snark, Vico…sweet Dr. Zoidberg also. So what about Brewster’s BKAB? Did you already write it and just not tag it that way, or what?
Corey Adams has already scheduled a visit to OSU for the Michigan game.
I think the real competition for his services is ASU. They have offered a bunch of his friends/teammates. He seems to be a bit hesitant due to the fact that he isn’t sure whether last year was a fluke or if they are for real. Beating USC and Michigan with him in attendance would definitely help, but at this point, I think ASU losing 4 or 5 games would be the biggest boost the Buckeyes could get.
Good call Dirty. Forgot about that visit, but yeah, when I say that I think he’s staying out west, I think it’s basically up between USC and ASU.
Caballo: Brewster’s feature is coming after Pryor’s, because it’s only fitting that the name behind the Brew Crew be the capstone (20th of 20 parts) feature.
I used to love holmes……………now i hope he rots in steeler hell
