Jordan Hall makes it 11.
The hits keep coming from the Spring Game. Where the tidal wave last year was the commitments of big time lineman, this year the selection is more eclectic. With a top 10 corner and 5 star linebacker recently joining the fold, Jordan Hall — a tailback from Jeannette, PA and teammate of Terrelle Pryor — added his name to the list. Thus continues the trend started with Brewster, Shugarts and Whiting of big time OOS recruits committing as early as they can to Ohio State.
The commitment of Jordan Hall doesn’t come as a particular surprise, though it’s definitely a welcome addition. Most believed Hall would follow Pryor wherever he ended up, be it Ohio State, Michigan, or Penn State. With Pryor committing to the Bucks and Hall (if my reading is correct) receiving a verbal offer from the Bucks on junior day when both he and a then uncommitted Pryor were in attendance, Hall was a proverbial lock.
Indeed, Hall was so convinced that all he was waiting for was his parents (his uncle is the Jeannette HS QB coach) to see the campus for themselves before eventually committing to assure his spot. Even then, he indicated he might not even wait for that. From the looks of it, perhaps he didn’t.
Hall’s commitment is welcome because it assures the Buckeyes their tailback in 2009 that they really needed following the fallout from Devoe Torrence. Moreover, with the Buckeyes loading up on lineman and linebackers in this class, it gives the Buckeyes a skill player as they move forward. Hall is of the speedy, elusive type that should serve the Buckeyes well in the future as they look to spread central behind players like Terrelle Pryor and Lamaar Thomas.
With 11 commitments in this class before some of the Big Ten has a single commitment (Iowa and Purdue, for example, are commit-less in 2009), the Buckeyes threaten to snatch up just about every notable recruit out there. Before it’s all said and done, the Buckeyes seem to be on pace to take about 60 players in this recruiting class. And that’s going to be a loooot of Better Know A Buckeye features to write.
Realistically, though, there’s about 9 spots left, give or take one, so players like Carlos Hyde, Duron Carter, James Jackson, Jonathan Newsome, Melvin Fellows, Vlad Emilien, Brandon McGee, Jaamal Berry and Marcus Hall might want to get on the ship before it sets sail.
Roy Hall is actually Jordan’s uncle, not his father.
whoops.. good catch, thanks. fixed it.
Who needs to pay for a Rivals or Scout membership when you have OHD?
hmm, I forgot to incorporate offseason, so we have 10 more spots remaining, not 9.
Around the Big Ten for 2009 recruiting:
- Illinois: 3
- Indiana: 0
- Iowa: 0
- Michigan: 5
- MSU: 0
- Minnesota: 4
- Northwestern: 1
- Ohio State: 11
- Penn State: 1
- World’s Largest Drum U: 0
- Wisky: 3
One of these things is not like the other. Get the feeling that some recruits out there aspire to play for Ohio State?
JoePa looks like he could’ve used some of those instate kids as well.
When was the last time we didn’t have tailback on the roster with the last name of either “Hall” or “Wells”? It’s been a while.
California Buckeye, in Latin. Cute.
heh, there’s a few of those around these parts
. Never seen one of the California Buckeye trees for myself, though. I’m guessing I’d have to look around San Bernadino or the more mountainous/foresty parts of California to spot one… and those places are far too boring.
