Buckeyes pick up lucky no. 13 in 2009
In the 5th commitment since the Spring Game, the Buckeyes picked up a veritable Beast from Boardman in Corey Linsley.
The commitment itself is very little surprise. Linsley had expressed elsewhere that, as an Ohioan, he grew up wanting to be a Buckeye.
“I’m an Ohio kid and that’s the place to be when you’re growing up,” he said. “Everyone from Ohio wants to go there. Columbus is a great city.”
Linsley attended a junior day there already and says the Buckeyes are about two and half hours from his house. “I love the team atmosphere that coach Jim Tressel produces there,” he said. “I love how they are all about team and working together. I like all the coaches and their style.”
He says his mom would like him to be a Buckeye. “My dad isn’t really biased towards a school, but my mom wants me to go to Ohio State,” he said. “I have cousins in Columbus and she wouldn’t worry so much. It would be like a home away from home.”
The surprise on my end is the latent curiosity that, with this trend continuing into the forseeable future, the Buckeyes might be wrapped up with recruiting by time the season starts. If my calculations are correct, 8 total scholarships are available before the class is ultimately filled. I know I’ve said it elsewhere with Fellows, but Emilien, Newsome, Carter and others might want to start thinking about hurrying things up to see if they think Ohio State is the best fit for them.
In the meantime, though, Linsley gives the Buckeyes a top 5 rated offensive guard prospect and an interior lineman with the agility of a rush end. Very good pickup for the Buckeyes. Naturally, we welcome Linsley aboard.
