God Bless What if Sports

One of the questions we commonly hear as members of Buckeye Nation is ‘What if the 02 Bucks played the 2006 Bucks?’ Well, thanks to Whatifsports.com we can answer that question. In fact, I took the liberty of creating an 8-team OSU Bracket (the best OSU teams since 1996) and simulated the results. Here is the bracket:

  1. 2002 OSU
  2. 1997 OSU
  1. 2007 OSU
  2. 1998 OSU
  1. 2006 OSU
  2. 2005 OSU
  1. 1996 OSU
  2. 2003 OSU
Rules: Best of 3, Neutral Field, and Standard Weather (70 degrees, no precipitation).

First Round:

    2002 OSU vs. 1997 OSU
    1. Game One: 29-17 2002 OSU
    2. Game Two: 21 -13 1997 OSU
    3. Game Three: 12-6 2002 OSU (4 Field Goals by Nugent)
    Winner: 2002 OSU
    2007 OSU vs. 1998 OSU
    1. Game One: 15-14 2007 OSU
    2. Game Two: 34-16 1998 Bucks
    3. Game Three: 13-10 1998 Bucks (86 yard run by Wiley for the Win)
    Winner: 1998 OSU
    2006 OSU vs. 2005 OSU
    1. Game One: 33- 16 2005 OSU (Pittman 230 Yards Rushing)
    2. Game Two: 21-13 2006 OSU
    3. Game Three: 36-14 2005 OSU
    Winner: 2005 OSU
    1996 OSU vs. 2003 OSU
    1. Game One: 17-6 1996 OSU
    2. Game Two: 29-10 1996 OSU
    Winner: 1996 OSU

Second Round

    2002 OSU vs. 1998 OSU
    1. Game One: 27-13 1998 OSU
    2. Game Two: 13-6 1998 OSU
    Winner: 1998 OSU
    2005 OSU vs. 1996 OSU
    1. Game One: 25-3 1996 OSU
    2. Game Two: 23-13 1996 OSU
    Winner: 1996 OSU

Finals

    1996 OSU vs. 1998 OSU
    1. Game One: 21-7 1996 OSU
    2. Game Two: 23-16 1998 OSU
    3. Game Three: 44-7 1998 OSU
    Winner: 1998 OSU

Whew…1998? Really? The 1998 Version of The Ohio State Buckeyes was the greatest team from 1996-2007? Regardless of the results, this reveals how good the teams of the 90s were (they have really lose their glamour due to the Tressel era and the lack of a national championship.

  1. 1 Georgia Buckeye

I’m not surprised. Those Cooper teams were incredibly talented. 2002 was a fluky year, and in the last three years we haven’t had good offense and defense in the same year.
