totally agree. Schottenstein Center is cozy (not that cozy), but it's just so... boring. It's much easier to sit down in the Schott (not that easy if you measure in over 6'0, as I do), but that's not the point of watching a basketball game, as St. John makes explicit because it's very difficult to sit down there. The Schott is a performance arena; St. John is a basketball arena. I understand there's issues of luxury seating, contracts and money that prohibit a full time move back to St John (I'll keep hope alive, though), but surely a game or three (or more... please) a season would be just enough gimmick for extra interest and perhaps additional revenue. I'll even go so far as to say when St. John is rocking, it's among the most intimidating places in college hoops. The Schott will just never be that.

Oh, and I agree. You Penn Staters really should move back into Rec Hall for a few games at least. That place just looks too cool to be as underutilized for national TV events like basketball. If Rec Hall isn't the textbook example of "gymnasium" inside and out, I don't know what is.

There must be a way to get Ohio State to schedule annual games at St. Johns. At Penn State we have the exact same situation. Rec Hall holds only 8,000 but when we had basketball there, the fans were literally on top of you and so packed together the place actually rumbled. It was a great home court advantage. Now we still get 9,000 - 10,000 fans a game but in a 16,000 seater Bryce Jordan Center, it looks extremely empty and hollow. Luckily for you guys, you can still fill St. Johns. But we're trying to find a way to move a couple games back to Rec Hall again as a tradition. I enjoyed watching you guys play Cal in St. John's, it was loud even on TV.
