Open Thread: the Pryor decision
As far as any of us know, Pryor is still slated for that noon-time announcement of his selection later today. Feel free to leave all comments on the topic in this here open thread. I’m sure Vic will be back with more when the decision comes.
There’s also cause for optimism among Buckeye fans in large part due to this quote in Scout:
I’m pretty sure they know I’m coming, Pryor stated. I just want to get this whole thing over with and move on.

Of course, that same Scout article had this gem:
Several very influential Michigan players past and present and other NFL people have been telling him that Michigan would be the best move for his future, our source said. Ohio State looks to be the front-runner, but I wouldn’t close the door on Michigan just yet.
Lichtenfels doesn’t say, but I’m guessing that Pryor initiated any such contact, because if Michigan alumni are calling him and engaging him first to talk about the program, that would be the mother of all recruiting no-nos. Alumni are not allowed to be involved in the recruiting process as USC found out two years ago. It’s probably nothing, though.
You lucky Columbus-area folks can watch the presser LIVE on 10TV. I’m jealous. Max is our source in Columbus, so I’m entrusting him to let us all know what’s going on. If Max disappoints (and if there’s good news from the presser), I will hit him.
Of course, fans can apparently watch it online at 10tv.com as well.
Until then, I thought this was apropos, since, hell, the story could end up the same way as it did in the movie for poor Prince Valium. Cool kids, of course, will know what movie this is from.

DDN is already calling it for the Buckeyes, citing some source in the Pitt Post-Gazette that I haven’t found yet.

The nation’s No. 1 prep quarterback recruit, from Jeannette High School near Pittsburgh, will announce at a noon press conference today, March 19, where he’ll play college football. According to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Web posting, the 6-foot-6 two-sport standout will choose the Buckeyes over the Wolverines.

Dave, I still haven’t the foggiest idea what the “web posting” in question for the DDN is. DDN is more than likely right about this in the end, but still, explicit citations are a virtue in writing. If this blows up in their face, they’ll look all the worse for it.
