the month that was, I guess
For new readers (plural, now! woo-hoo!) to OHD thinking that every post will be about the Buckeyes, you should skip this one. We do a fair bit of ego stroking where appropriate1. Especially me, since last month we basically won the internets… twice. I’ve forgotten what winning feels like so it feels nice, but again, that’s just me.
We started this thingie on Jan 9 just to let off some steam, explore some empirical stuff about college football, let off about the playoff idea and where we see problems in it, and just cover the Buckeyes as best we could. Naturally, nobody thought… this would last, and yet, well… yeah. Here we are.
Just to offer some kind of insight to how quickly this caught on, keep in mind, we started this thing on January 9 of this year. To kind of assess how quickly it caught on, I took a look at bandwidth consumption for the month of January just to see what happened. Naturally, 11W fed us some readership because Vico comments there all the time, Bucknuts gave us the first spike of 70MB and Buckeye Commentary blew the whole damn thing wide open. Curiously enough, if people keep visiting this thing at that rate or anything close to it, it might kill our bandwidth…
…and that’s just what Michigan would want.
So please, remember: Enjoy OHD Responsibly (TM), or else Michigan wins.
Enh, who am I kidding, we got 30 gigs of bandwidth so I think we’ll be fine, and we have a backupblog somewhere for emergency situations.
Actually, this was all a flimsy pretext to also ask a question for any relevant passersby: we’ve been getting a ton of readership via scout.com, almost as much as the readers we’ve been getting via Buckeye Commentary. Usually Vico and I can sniff out where the link/mention to OHD comes from, but because scout.com is so server-include heavy2, we can only deduce that the link came from scout.com’s forum section. But we still don’t know where, which is made worse by scout.com’s forum section being so gi-normous that we can’t even know if it came from a Buckeye forum. We’d appreciate any information on that, just because we like to know what our readers are looking at.
OHD, I stumbled over here via the link Keith put up. Great job. I am a daily reader now.
Vico, congratulations on the new-found popularity.
Let me grab my #2 Ticonderoga and have Faux Fake Lou hand you an award for winning the internets.
Take it away Faux Fake Lou.
Thzank you Ron.
Vico, you have a lot to be proud of. From the lowszh of an NC defeat, you have created your webszite, like a Phoenixsh, from the ashzes of defeat to the heightsz of World Wide Web glory. You behaviour sztands teshtament to your true Buckeye shpirit and … ??? … wait a tic … backup … dnatiriphseyekcuBeurtruoyottnemathsetsdnatzsruoivaheb … behaviour??? Damn you OHD!! It’sz hard enough to type like a hick from Wesht Penshyltukio with this penshil in my mouth. But affect a British accshent too? Damn you!
Oh, where wasz I, Oh yea…
It’sz like my namesake Faux Uncle Lou used to tell me when I wasz a little boy: “Just pretend it’sz a piecze of candy, and don’t tell your parentsz, or your dog will get szick and die”.
Szo, don’t tell your parentsz, and keep up the good work! MITSHIGAN-SHTILL-SHUCKS LET’Sz GO!!!
Is there going to being any guest posts from Glass Joe, King Hippo, or any of those likes?
Gabby keeps asking if Piston Hurricane and Bob Charlie can do guest features and I keep telling him no.
Bear Hugger is a big Wisconsin Badgers fan too, so getting him to do a guest column is out of the question.
