Boo winter sports. Hoo-ray baseball!

First, server issue that’s been plaguing us this whole week is seemingly resolved, for the most part. No complaints here with our host, as it has graciously responded to my every complaint about server performance. The culprit was apparently some account that was spamming the database, which almost exclusively powers this blog, and hence the holdups. This is the risk you take on a shared server, but oh well.  If we keep nailing our boars head to the wall before we eat, we may ward off the bad juju ailing the server. Must. counteract. bad. juju! Bonus points for those out there who know what I’m referencing.

Another point, though, notwithstanding server issues, all three of us here have been very busy with work related matters. I, for one, am currently working on a business project that will take me from this wretched state in the South to Chicago in the glorious Midwest in early April. Hoo-ray Midwest! Consequently, my Better Know A Buckeye features have been delayed, though the next installment should be up by the weekend, if the bad juju will permit. In the interim, those interested in a quick fix of Buckeye recruiting should check out AtO’s nice recap on the incoming offensive players and defensive players. Hoo-ray AtO!

Of course, as the title of this post will indicate, we here are bored with winter sports already. Be it the visual chokejob against Wisconsin in the final minute and a half — such as but not limited to forgetting how to catch a ball — or the visual chokejob again just days later in Bloomington — such as but not limited to blowing a 3-on-1 fastbreak or Koufos passing a live ball to Coach Matta — we can’t justify paying any more attention to men’s hoops this season. Surely the season is not over, and the Bucks could feasibly work their way into the tournament (they are, after all, a bubble team), but I for one don’t really look forward to the possibility. Sure, if the Bucks make the big dance, there’s a good chance they will be playing a first round game in Birmingham, Alabama. In which case, I could watch. But even dating back to early February, I just can’t see this team winning any more than one game in the big dance (I, of course, would love to be wrong). So what utility is there in being a one-and-done in the tournament vis-a-vis making an extended run in the NIT to build momentum for next year? I sympathize with the latter, for what it’s worth, and I just don’t see that much harm in putting together a quality NIT run to build momentum for the 2008-09 campaign when, I should hope, we’ll be much stronger up front even with the question of experience at point (JuCo transfer PJ Hill and freshman Noopy Crater).

But that said, since March is just around the corner, that could only really mean one thing: baseball. Ohhhh yeah. It’s coming. All 3 of us are big Tribe fans and, ergo, we’re likely to cover the Tribe in the dog days of summer along with any preseason happenings with the Buckeye football team. It’s our blog, and we can do that. And besides, we have a ginormous mancrush on Travis Hafner. As should you. As should everyone, for Travis Hafner is America incarnate. The Tigers are no doubt stacked with talent in the AL Central, but the Tribe will be returning almost everyone that got it to the cusp of the World Series last year. And we’ll be excited as we are every year.

But covering baseball need not be limited to the Major Leagues. The Buckeye Nine should be your one-stop shop for coverage on the baseball Bucks. It’s about damn time that someone covered the Buckeye baseball team with a blog, and we welcome Todd’s quality attempts at just that. We’ll be making sure to read it frequently and remind ourselves of our freshmen year when the baseball team made it to Super Regionals before bowing out to Missouri State (or something along those lines). Hoo-ray Buckeye Nine! Hoo-ray baseball!

Hoo-ray beer! , it certainly makes watching winter sports that much easier.

31 days until opening day! Although I don’t share your enthusiasm with the Tribe I am ready for baseball season. I have the pleasure of rooting for the Reds and man, what a pleasure that has been for the last 12-15 years. But I’ll say it again this year, just like every other year, I think the Reds can do it this year.
