Schoenhoft to help fix Buckeye logjam at QB

…by transferring, apparently.

One week ago today, I was talking to Rob Schoenhoft in the Superdome stands for media day. He spoke of his disappointment with being moved to scout-team tight end for bowl practice, but mentioned it would add a little fire to his belly.

Apparently, that fire is going to lead him to burn bridges at OSU and transfer. He reportedly is visiting the University of Delaware this weekend.

Rob SchoenhoftI was wondering who would blink first. Of Schoenhoft and Henton, I was expecting one of the two to transfer with the prospect of Pryor looming, though I was honestly expecting it to be Henton. I don’t think we’ll miss Schoenhoft in the least, though it’s a very real possibility (I think) that Henton will transfer if Pryor does commit to Ohio State, which would bump Bauserman to second-team QB of the future. Of course, this is contingent on us getting Pryor, whom might be just a little bit more interested in the Buckeyes with the QB situation just a little bit more clearer. I’m being serious about the “little bit” part, because the Michigan position probably looks much more inviting with decommits from Wienke and the transfer of Mallett.

In a sense, I do feel sorry for Schoenhoft in that he was as highly recruited as any coming out of St Xavier. Quarterback is a sensitive position where there’s really no clear or acceptable rotation like there is/could be among defensive lineman, linebackers, tailbacks or defensive backs. Such is the business nowadays. Such is life.

Best of wishes to Schoenhoft in the future, though, if he eventually does transfer to Delaware. Do find some way to vandalize that oh-so-familiar wing-tip helmet if you do transfer to Delaware, Robbie. Like maybe a spiffy Buckeye pride sticker, perhaps?
