Ohio State, Oklahoma, schedule a home-and-home

Posted by Vico in Buckeye Football |

Big Ten Network reporting that Ohio State and Oklahoma have finalized a home-and-home for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. This is particularly welcome for three reasons. First, it should help alleviate some Buckeye anxieties over the 1977 meeting which ended in an Oklahoma FG that has gone down in their program’s lore1.

Second, it brings up pleasant memories of the Buckeyes strolling into Norman in 1983 to face the second-ranked Sooners and slapping them down for a 24-14 victory. On a day when temperatures apparently peaked at 135 degrees on the field, John Frank was the certain MVP. Catching two Tomczak passes for Tomczak’s two touchdowns just after fasting for two days for Yom Kippur, John Frank emerged as kind of an unsung Buckeye hero. In the upcoming days, I should look at that tape if at all possible. Sounds like one of those great days in Buckeye football history that people forget about.

Third, and perhaps most importantly, it should leave no doubt in people’s minds that Ohio State’s program isn’t afraid of anybody.

Somewhere, Jim Tressel is channeling the spirit of John Kerry circa 2004: BRING… … IT… … ON…

  1. my old man would have to recap it for you since he was there in Ohio Stadium []
  2. I don’t know for sure, but there’s a good chance this gets played at Paul Brown Stadium []

This is why OSU is the number one program in the country. We are willing to schedule teams like Texas, OU, USC, Miami, Va Tech and such

When do the SEC games come?

Excellent summary. And we still have to grind through Penn State, Wisconsin, MSU, Illinois, Iowa, and (ugh) M*ch*gan. Not every one of them is a powerhouse each year, but they’re all tough teams and tough games. Beats the @$^&* out of SEC teams like Florida claiming thier schedule is so tough with cupcakes like Western Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Citadel.
